Reflection on Federman video

In the first place, I like the title of the video, “No Educator Left Behind”, as it connects very well with the earlier “No Child Left Behind” educational policy, thus linking two very important issues in twenty-first century education. Having watched this video, I realize the relevance and value of the tools we worked with in “23 Things”, both for teaching /learning, and for personal use, and how important connecting and collaborating with others is in the process of effective, contemporary education. Today, educators and learners are connecting globally, both for social and educational purposes, therefore, there is a necessity for everyone involved in education to develop an effective educational online network in order to offer their students twenty-first century education. The traditional classroom of the past (one-way medium), with the teacher as the main instructor teaching in a content/skill-based learning environment predominantly within the four walls of the classroom, has been replaced by a two-way medium that is based on connectivity, collaboration and interactive participation. Collaborative production of knowledge through mass media tools such as blogs, Twitter, Flickr, Facebook etc ., is gaining credibility throughout the world, thus encouraging multiple ways of perceiving, understanding and responding to any phenomena. Such remarkable changes in the field of education will have dramatic repercussions in all areas, that is, not only in the role of the learner, the teacher, and the outlook of the school curriculum, but also, in the role of education, in general.
